The blast frequency gun is a weapon in Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, and Dead Rising 2: Case West. It can only be found in the underground and in the secret lab (see locations below). The gun appears as a multi-colored shotgun with holes.

The gun comes with 50 shots and shoots blue waves of noise which explodes heads with a plasma discharge surrounded by an electrical current that is effective against gas zombies, but does no damage toward regular zombies or psychopaths.

The official guide states that the blast frequency gun is a "special weapon engineered to be very effective versus gas zombies."[1]

The blast frequency gun can be combined with an amplifier to create the Super B.F.G. The Super B.F.G. is the most powerful firearm in the game, but has only 15 shots before breaking.[1]

In Case West, the blast frequency gun can be combined with an impact hammer to create the Impact Blaster or with an electric prod to create the Lightning Gun. The Lightning Gun is also present in Off the Record. The player can improve it further by combining it with a Laser Sword to create the Laser Gun.

Dead rising blast frequency gun main
  • Main: Press X/Square to fire a blast of high-frequency sound waves that will burst the heads of gas zombies, killing them, or knock down regular zombies without doing damage.

  • Ranged: Hold Ltrigger/L2 to go into aim mode, then tap X/Square or pull Righttrigger/R2 to shoot at a manual target.

  • One is located in the underground before the failed military rescue. Enter the underground from the entrance in the Royal Flush Plaza; once Chuck is underground, take a left (towards the maintenance room) and it will be on the first large raised section with the Servbot masks on. Once Chuck has the gun, head back up to the Royal Flush Plaza and go to the Tunemakers shop which has a maintenance room in the back and a large stack of amplifiers next to the Maintenance Room, allowing Chuck to build the Super B.F.G. In Off the Record, the blast frequency gun spawns in the same area, but not the exact same spot; instead, it rests on the train cars opposite the raised platform. Using a vehicle to hit the ramp is the easiest way to get up there.
  • A B.F.G. is located in the secret laboratory in the underground after the failed military rescue and after defeating scientists Mark Bradson and Pearce Stephens during Case 7-2: The Only Lead (Case 8-2: The Only Lead in Off the Record). It is beside the lever Chuck pulls in the following cutscene. By leaving and entering repeatedly, an infinite number of blast frequency guns can be spawned.

  • Mark Bradson and Pearce Stephens will throw up when shot by this gun, allowing Chuck to get up close for an easy kill.
  • In Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, mercenaries will use blast frequency guns on Frank. Getting hit by the blast will induce spontaneous vomiting, making Frank drop his weapon and leaving him vulnerable to additional attacks.
  • The abbreviation "B.F.G." is a reference to the weapon from the PC game series Doom; however, unlike in Dead Rising 2 in which the acronym stands for "Blast Frequency Gun", the Doom acronym originally meant "Big Fucking Gun" or "Big Freaking Gun" (according to the Doom motion picture, the acronym stands for "Bio Force Gun").
  • The Soldier of Fortune Skills Pack does not affect this gun at all.
