The Broadsword is a weapon in Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

In Case Zero, Jason demands a broadsword in exchange for the Handle Bars.

Attacks

Main: Tap / to swing the sword, slicing cleanly through zombies in a three-attack 'combo': diagonal left-to-right. Combo: Quickly tap / again to swing diagonally right-to-left. Combo 2: Quickly tap / a third time to perform a horizontal attack through the middle which hits all enemies in a 320° arc. Alternate: Hold / to perform an overhead cleave attack, vertically splitting a zombie in two. Jump: Tap / then / to perform a jump-cleave attack, splitting a zombie vertically. This attack replaces the Jump Kick, and awards the player 10 PP. If the player is wearing the Ninja Suit, there is an alternate blade attack in which the player slashes horizontally.

Magazines

• The Blades magazine will give 3x durability to the broadsword if it is in the player's inventory.
• The Sports magazine will give 3x durability to the broadsword if it is in the player's inventory.
• The durability will stack if you have both magazines (two magazine icons should show in the image of your weapon instead of just one).
• With one magazine, the broadsword's durability is raised to 120 hits, and with both magazines, the count is brought up to 360.

Trivia

• There is a sword wedged in a stone next to Luaii Wauwii, a reference to The Sword in the Stone.
• The Off the Record PC file items.txt reveals that there is a Ninja Broad Sword (NinjaBroadSword), which has an identical appearance to the in-game broadsword.
• (OTR) Curiously, the Broadsword loses the benefit from the Sports magazine if Frank is wearing the full Ninja outfit, but instead it gains the benefit from the Games magazine.
