Josh Manning is a survivor appearing exclusively in Dead Rising.
He is found in the empty store next to Crislip's Home Saloon. He is held hostage by Cliff Hudson during the scoop The Hatchet Man and can be freed after Cliff's defeat.
The Hatchet Man[]

Josh was mistaken as a member of the Viet Cong and held captive by the psychopath Cliff. He and two other captives, Rich Atkins and Barbara Patterson, were trapped inside an empty store next to Crislip's Home Saloon.
After Cliff is defeated, Frank West unlocks the doors and convinces the three frightened survivors to follow him to the Security Room. If Frank kills one of the survivors before recruitment, none of them will be willing to talk to Frank, and they become impossible to recruit.
Kindell's Betrayal[]

After being rescued, Josh will wait in the room with the green door. When Kindell Johnson believes that there is no helicopter coming in three days, he rallies up the other survivors in the same room, including Josh, to leave.
If Frank does not stop Kindell's mutiny, Josh will leave the Security Room along with the other survivors in the same room. They will no longer count towards the number of rescued survivors.
Infinity Mode[]

Josh appears at the Heliport from 2:19:00 to 3:00:00 and he is armed with a Machete. He also carries a Grapefruit, a Lead Pipe, a Sledgehammer, a Shovel and a Golf Club.
Notes[]
- If Josh or one of the other scoop survivors are killed before speaking to one of them, they cannot be recruited, even if Frank talks to them afterwards, they will not respond.
Trivia[]
- His weapon choice is ironic in Infinity Mode, due to the fact that he was held captive by Cliff Hudson in the main game, who wields a machete during his boss battle.
- On being rescued Josh says: "I bet even that machete guy was just a nice old man before all this happened." Indicating that Josh has begun to forgive Cliff for his captivity.
- This makes him one of the only survivors to sympathize with a Psychopath in the Dead Rising series.
- Josh does not appear in Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop.
