He is found in Run Like the Wind in Wonderland Plaza during the scoop Lovers. He is the injured boyfriend of Tonya Waters and is very protective of her, even risking his life to ensure her safety.
Lovers[]
- Main article: Lovers
Tonya and Ross are found hiding in a shoe store in Wonderland Plaza. When Frank West comes across them, she begs him to help Ross, who has been shot while trying to protect her. She refuses to leave Ross behind, despite how badly he is hurt. Ross insists that Frank get Tonya to safety and asks for a Handgun.
If Frank complies with Ross' wishes, he will shoot himself in the head. Tonya, grief-stricken and enraged, blames Frank for Ross' death and refuses to leave his side, rendering her unable to be rescued.
If Frank talks to Tonya instead, she can be convinced to help escort Ross to the Security Room. Due to his injuries, Ross is unable to walk far and must be carried by Frank.
Chop Till You Drop[]
In the Wii version of the game, Ross' request is slightly altered: he asks for handgun ammunition instead of a firearm. Additionally, Ross does not require Frank to carry him, as his mobility is significantly improved. Upon his rescue, Ross rewards Frank with the Red 9, a powerful handgun exclusive to Chop Till You Drop.
Infinity Mode[]
- Main article: Infinity Mode
In Infinity Mode, Ross appears in TuneMakers in Paradise Plaza from 3:07:00 to 3:19:00, and is armed with a Hunting Knife. When killed, he drops an Orange Juice, a Push Broom, a 2x4, a Skateboard, and a Stuffed Bear.
Trivia[]
- When Frank mentions that he is a photojournalist, Ross asks him not to take any photographs of him. Ironically, Ross' image is used for the Census Taker achievement, which requires photos of 50 different survivors.
- If Frank gives Ross the Handgun, he can take a photo of Ross shooting himself for 10,000 PP.
- Occasionally, a game bug prevents Ross from climbing the platform, making it impossible to save either him or Tonya, as she will only follow Ross.
- While the source of Ross's gunshot wound is never revealed, it is likely that he was shot by Jo Slade, a corrupt police officer known for abducting young women. Tonya states that Ross was injured while protecting her, which fits Jo's behavior. Other psychopaths wield more powerful firearms that would likely have killed Ross outright, with the exception of Kent Swanson, who is also armed with a Handgun.
- Ross is similar to Christine Emerie, a survivor in Dead Rising 3, as both will commit suicide if the player fulfills their request, but can be saved by choosing not to.
- A known glitch occurs if Frank agrees to Tonya that he will carry Ross, but then gives Ross the Handgun: Ross will begin the suicide animation, but stop mid-animation and revert to his idle state. The conversation continues normally, and the survivors will join Frank. Assuming the player does not give Ross any food, Ross will keep the Handgun for the entire trip to the Security Room.
- Ross is the slowest-moving survivor in the game.
- He is the only survivor who always remains seated in the Security Room, no matter the time, and the only one who doesn't get up to thank Frank when he reenters the room for the first time.
- Taking a photo of Ross' wound will register under the Horror genre in the photography system.
