The Smithville Outbreak was the first outbreak to occur after the Willamette outbreak. It started on a college campus when a basketball player suddenly turned during practice in 2007. In Dead Rising 3, Diego Martinez shows Nick Ramos a poster of the outbreak in the Museum of the Americas and reveals that the basketball player who started the outbreak was number 4 of Carlito's Orphans.
